CULTURE

Anatolia has been the host of many varied cultures starting at about 8000 BC. Catalhoyuk is the site where one of the oldest civilizations, the Hittites, was based.  The Hittites, Urarts, Phrygians, Lydians, Ionians, Persians, were followed by Alexander the Great.  The Hellenistic and the Romans eras were followed by the Selcuk and the Ottoman empires. In addition, there were other smaller civilized communities.  All of these left their mark upon the four corners of the land.  Thousands of works have been uncovered, and many are waiting to see daylight.

Our tours also include a look to the contemporary Anatolian culture that has resulted from the many influences enumerated above.  There are the Turks, the Laz, the Kurds, the Circassians, the Greeks, the Armenians, the Georgians, the Arabs and the Alevis; all living together, but within their own life styles.  The varied folklore, literature, language, cuisine, architecture, beliefs, and dress styles contribute to the rich mosaic of contemporary life in Turkey.  This is a land of true synthesis of the old and the new.

The tours are categorized as Western Black Sea , Eastern Black Sea , Eastern Anatolia , South Eastern Anatolia, Western Mediterranean , Eastern Mediterranean , North Aegean , South Aegean , and Interior Anatolia.   We try not to separate culture from nature.  So, is it possible to visit Petra and not swim from the magnificent sandy shore?  Is a visit to Serge complete without rafting?
